History of Rainbow Pride Flag
A brilliant gay wedding anniversary or gay wedding gift, we take a closer look at the famous Rainbow flag. It was first commissioned by gay politician Harvey Milk in 1977. Milk felt that queer people "needed something that was positive, that celebrated our love." The Pride flag was created by Gilbert Baker and was inspired by Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow," each colour has a meaning: hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for magic/art, indigo for serenity, and violet for spirit. The back of each bar explains the story behind the three different versions, from dropping the pink stripe in 1978 (no it's not why you think), to the most recent Progress Pride Flag version in 2019. Fascinating and stylish, this celebration of Gay Pride Gift makes a wonderful and quirky gift for gay birthday friends and family.
On top of the flag, we have added the fabulous Oscar Wilde quotation "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." to create a LGBT+ Gay Pride quirky gift, perfect for gay birthday, gay anniversary, gay wedding or coming out gifts. (We have also included a caption with a brief history of this version of the pride flag on the back of the bar as it's so interesting to know the story behind the flag colours).
