Case Study: Own Brand Wholesale Chocolate Bars
Client: Historic Environment Scotland
The Brief: Create a Branded Chocolate range for Edinburgh Castle Gift Shop
The Client
Edinburgh Castle is arguably Scotland’s most famous landmark and has been voted Best UK Heritage Attraction multiple times. A major tourist attraction all year round, Edinburgh Castle houses the Crown Jewels of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, as well as the National War Museum of Scotland.
The Opportunity
This iconic landmark has a strong brand identity, and one that appeals to visitors from far and wide. Historic Environment Scotland (HES), have curated several gift shops within the grounds, one of which specialises in showcasing Scottish Food and Drink. Artisan Chocolate makes a popular and portable gift, so they were keen to add branded locally made chocolate to their range.
Why Choose Quirky Chocolate?
Whenever possible, HES prefer to work with local businesses to help support the local economy. They were also looking for a chocolate supplier that could produce a gift that would have as little impact on the environment as possible. As well as tasting delicious, it was important that the chocolate was sustainably sourced and was in plastic free packaging. As a local business, they had heard about Quirky Chocolate and felt they ticked all their boxes:
- Artisan Chocolate freshly made to order
- Handmade in-house (Edinburgh)
- Own Brand Packaging Available
- Fairtrade Chocolate
- Plastic free packaging, made in UK
- Wholesale pricing available
The Process
Via email, HES briefed Quirky Chocolate on what they had in mind for flavours and designs, then sent through logos and images, including their Edinburgh Castle tartan. Quirky Chocolate presented them with various design visuals for consideration (also via email), and after a few tweaks the designs were signed off by the HES team. After that, sample bars were sent for final approval, and the most important taste test. Shortly after seeing the samples, they placed their first order.
The Results
Kathleen McLaughlin, of Historic Environment Scotland, said:
‘From start to finish I found it a very smooth and enjoyable process working with Quirky Chocolate. The staff were very helpful when we were designing our own label bars and I was impressed with how quickly these were developed. Despite covid, we are very happy with initial sales and we look forward to a good year. We will definitely work with Quirky Chocolate again in the future.
